In a recent announcement, the Rails Team announced Action Mailbox for Rails 6.
This is a pretty exciting feature to me. You could have always done this with your own code in Rails, but building the framework into Rails 6 makes it much easier for developers to design “mail-in” applications.
This feature takes me back to my Lotus Notes/Domino days where you could create something called a “mail-in database”, which allowed Notes developers to quickly build powerful applications that acted on incoming emails.
Rails 6 won’t be ready for a while, but speaking for myself, this is one of the most exciting announcements from the Rails team in some time.
